Norwegians make a big deal out of the first day of summer. There are several celebrations around Seattle, but I always find myself up at my wife’s family cabin at Norway Park. It’s just a stone’s throw from Lake McMurray, depending on how far you can throw a stone. There’s drinking, family games, drinking, food and more drinking…some live bands…and a huge bonfire. This year, they kept it down to a dull roar, but it was still big enough to get a few “oo’s and “awww’s” out of the crowd. Here’s a nice picture of me and my lovely Norwegian wife in front of the fire.

Hot time in the old town tonight!
It’s a long-standing tradition for her family and, with as hot as that fire was, you can see why they stand and not sit.
